MEMORY OF WATER

“Memory of Water 2” remains as the result of a short performance exploring the juxtaposition

between impression and memory. The performance opened with six fruits being displayed,

museum-style, on white shelves. The fruits were then each photographed with instant film.

As the exposures were developing, each fruit was halved and one half was placed on top of

the appearing image of the once-entire fruit. The other halves were prepared, arranged and

served to the audience, ideally inviting viewers to consider the contrast between their own

conscious experience of eating and assimilating the fruit, and the real and immediate

effects of the organic (acids, enzymes, molds, etc) on the physical or artificial "memory"

of the photograph. The six “fruit-treated” photographs remain on display as an ongoing

provocation and experiment.
